Join Mercy Health in providing the highest quality of health care to our communities. This role is for an experienced Registered Nurse who will deliver comprehensive patient care in a high‑acuity cardiology environment.
Summary of Primary FunctionThe Stepdown RN delivers patient care using the nursing process, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, coordinating patient teaching, and managing care of patients with multi‑system organ failure and trauma.
Essential Job Functions- Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyzes data, creates and implements care plans, and evaluates treatment effectiveness.
- Administers medications following state, Mercy Health, and ACIC policies.
- Coordinates care within hospital departments and serves as point of contact.
- Advocates for patient safety, quality improvement, and ethical care.
- Uses AACN Synergy Model to support physiologic, psychological, and psychosocial stability across the lifespan.
- Prioritizes evidence‑based actions, adapts to rapidly changing conditions, and communicates with families.
- Follows BSMH Nursing Professional Practice Model and core concepts.
- Current RN license in the state of employment or covered by compact (required).
- BLS Basic Life Support (required); ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred at hire, required within 6 months).
- CCRN or PCCN (preferred).
- National Institute of Health Stroke Certification (preferred).
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred).
Work Experience- 1 year RN experience in acute care (required).
- 6 months RN experience in acute care hospital (preferred).
- EPIC Electronic Health Record (preferred).
- Critical Care Course (preferred).
- Clinical assessment and patient teaching.
- Evidence‑based decision making and care coordination.
- Interpersonal communication and collaboration.
- Cultural diversity and inclusion.
- Resilience, self‑care, and professional growth.
- Advanced cardiac care (e.g., chest tubes, transvenous pacing, sedation).
- Use of respiratory modalities and monitoring techniques.
- High stress and fluctuating workloads.
- Potential exposure to physical altercations, verbal abuse, and hazardous substances.
- Potential for physical restraints and high noise levels.
- Universal precautions and infection control policies required.
Includes lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, climbing, bending, sitting, walking, standing, manual dexterity, shift work, and exposure to alarms, rapid movements, and various physical demands.
Patient PopulationAdult (18‑64 years) and geriatric (65+ years) patients in a high‑acuity cardiovascular unit.
