Registered Nurse - Observation Unit at Tri Health

Job Overview

This position applies the nursing process in providing direct and indirect holistic care to patients and their families. It collaborates collegially with physicians and other health care team members to meet the patient’s needs. The RN may delegate aspects of care to supervised staff within the scope of nursing practice.

Job Requirements
  • Associate's Degree or Diploma in Nursing
  • New hires must obtain BSN within 5 years of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification
  • Registered Nurse license
  • Knowledge, judgment, and skills derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences across life cycles
Preferred Membership / Experience
  • RNs with more than 1 year full‑time or 2 years part‑time acute care experience
  • Specialty certification preferred
Job Responsibilities
  • Perform initial and ongoing assessment of patient and family; complete assessment tools; document findings; communicate results to other providers.
  • Plan patient and family care based on assessment, standards, and outcomes; initiate individualized care guidelines; update plans as needed; set short‑ and long‑term goals; discharge planning; communicate plan to team.
  • Provide safe, therapeutic environment; maintain patient autonomy, dignity, and rights; seek resources for ethical decisions; balance priorities; recognize emergencies and act accordingly.
  • Document patient assignments and interventions; base interventions on clinical data and desired outcomes.
  • Train/educate staff; serve as expert resource; effectively communicate physician orders.
  • Evaluate care plans for optimal outcomes; document patient/family response; collaborate with team to revise plan; supervise delegated care.
  • Perform technical skills per policy, procedure, and accepted standards; administer medications and treatments; monitor effects; use equipment safely.
  • Identify self‑improvement areas; fulfill relief charge/resource roles; complete assignments on time; collaborate with instructor for student learning; maintain current knowledge; keep abreast of organizational changes.
