Job Description
- Responsible for patient care that includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.
- Serves as medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.
- Completes admission medical assessments (including history and physical examinations, mental status examination) and entering admission orders.
- Orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.
- Monitors patient’s progress, including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.
- Consults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.
- Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioner if needed providing DSM‑5 diagnoses that are valid, complete, and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.
- Provides coverage to the medical clinic, the admission suite to ensure the admission process is completed.
- Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices.
- Assesses and addresses medication side‑effects and reports adverse drug reactions.
- Ensures timely and quality documentation (admissions, follow‑up and annual, etc.) in patient records in accordance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines.
- 3+ more years as a Physician/Practitioner.
- Strong experience working with patients having Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
- Psychiatric Crisis Management and Forensic experience, a plus.
- Experience working with adult admissions or geriatric admissions and acute and chronic health management of adult and geriatric populations.
- Comfortable working on admissions work up and potential rapid turnover.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- BLS Healthcare Provider certification is required.
- Available to start immediately (pending credentialing).
- Initial Appointment for 3‑month assignment, with option to extend 3‑6‑month assignment, if the position remains unfilled.
- Full‑time, 40 hours a week with assigned office hours of Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with 1 hour lunch break, no alternative schedules accepted.
- Not approved for overtime.
- No weekends, no holidays, no on‑call duty.
- Once a month, participation in Lunch Coverage Call (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM).
$131/Hour
