Registered Nurse - Main Labor and Delivery - Full Time - Nights

The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. All care is provided based on the concepts inherent in the model of care for TCH which promotes an on-going partnership between patients and families and the team of healthcare providers.

The care is culturally based and age specific. The RN adheres to American Nursing Association (ANA) code of ethics and to the scope of practice described in the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.

• Assessment - Demonstrates the nursing skills to complete a holistic assessment of the patient’s physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and education needs utilizing The Christ Hospital Professional Practice Model. Includes understanding signs and symptoms and data related to the patient’s presenting needs and actual or potential nursing diagnoses; reporting abnormal data to the physician and charge RN; using handoff methods to communicate pertinent data;
  
  assessing patient, family, and environment for safety risks and implementing safety initiatives.
• Diagnosis and Planning - Uses collected data to establish and prioritize actual and potential patient problems and needs; prepares, coordinates, and revises multidisciplinary plans of care with measurable goals; communicates the plan of care using SBAR and handoff processes; sets care priorities and participates in care conferences; initiates discharge planning and referrals as appropriate.
• Implementation - Provides evidence-based, quality care based on assessed needs and standards; performs and delegates nursing actions according to orders; provides ongoing patient and family education; reviews physician orders, makes referrals, and collaborates with health team professionals; responds to emergencies; implements measures to prevent contamination and maintain a safe environment.
• Evaluation - Continuously evaluates nursing practice relative to standards and patient outcomes; maintains continuity of care through handoffs, rounding, and transfers.
• Documentation - Documents the nursing process accurately in the electronic medical record; updates plan of care, teaching, and patient/family responses in a timely manner.
• Leadership and Professional Development - Demonstrates leadership, mentoring, and participation in professional development activities; engages in performance improvement, evidence-based projects, and research as appropriate; serves as a resource and preceptor for team members and students; maintains competency in unit-specific practices and explores professional advancement opportunities.
• Employee Responsibilities - Complies with organization and department policies and training; completes required education to maintain competency; submits required tests and paperwork timely. Attends to attendance and related expectations.

• Education - RN;
  The Christ Hospital Health Network hires AD and Diploma nurses; after January 2010, all nurses must obtain a BSN within 5 years of hire. An MSN or DNP is not required but supersedes the BSN requirement.
• Years of Experience - None required
• Required Skills and Knowledge - Ability to provide age- and culturally-specific patient care and education; effective communication; confidentiality; ongoing professional growth; adaptability to change; work in a culturally diverse setting.
• Licenses & Certifications - Current Ohio nursing license; BLS required prior to patient contact; ACLS within 6 months of hire in step-down and ICU areas; specialty certification within five years of eligibility.
