Overview
The Development & Grants Manager plays a vital cross-functional role in supporting the philanthropic and operational advancement of the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of grant writing and management, mid-level donor engagement, and daily development operations, working closely with the CEO, COO and operations team, and Director of Strategic External Engagement.
The Manager ensures timely execution of donor acknowledgments, data tracking, grant reporting, and supports targeted campaigns and donor stewardship efforts.
- Lead the identification, development, and submission of grant proposals to private and public funders.
- Maintain a robust grants calendar to ensure timely compliance, reporting, and renewal efforts.
- Collaborate with finance and operations staff to develop grant budgets, ensure accurate allocations, and support grant-related financial reporting.
- Collaborate with programmatic leadership on delivered programmatic impact and operational reporting on grants.
- Manage institutional funder relationships and ensure stewardship and communication touchpoints.
- Maintain organized records of grant applications, agreements, and reporting deadlines.
- Manage the day-to-day donor systems, including data entry, pledge tracking, acknowledgments, and invoicing in the CRM (Hub Spot).
- Oversee development record-keeping and maintain accurate and organized documentation of major gift and grant agreements.
- Partner with the COO to ensure clean, accurate reporting from the CRM and effective use of data in donor communications.
- Maintain systems for data hygiene and ensure accurate and timely execution of acknowledgments and pledge reminders.
- Collaborate with finance and operations staff to ensure timely and accurate reporting and reconciliation to financial systems.
- Manage a portfolio of mid-level donors (generally in the $360–$10,000 range) with responsibility for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship as part of larger External Affairs annual planning and giving campaign.
- Work closely with the Director of Strategic External Engagement to support annual and corporate giving campaigns.
- Support parlor meetings, engagement gatherings, and special projects that build donor pipeline and engagement as part of larger External Affairs annual planning and giving campaign.
- Serve as the staff lead for legacy giving strategy, including cultivation, tracking, and stewardship.
- Collaborate with the COO and Director of Strategic External Engagement to support and track directed giving campaigns for special projects and strategic priorities.
- Contribute to campaign planning and logistics by managing timelines, pledge records, and reporting.
- Embrace a team-wide culture of collaboration, flexibility, and humility.
- Contribute to an “all hands on deck” approach where no task is too big or too small in service of advancing the mission.
- Demonstrate a commitment to relationship-building, shared leadership, and the strategic use of data to inform action.
- Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, with strong grant writing and management expertise.
- Familiarity and confidence working in donor databases/CRMs (Hub Spot experience a plus).
- Strong organizational and project management skills; highly attentive to detail and follow-through.
- Experience cultivating mid-level donors or managing a donor portfolio.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated ability to work well across teams, especially in partnership with marketing/engagement and operations staff.
- Adaptability and a proactive mindset in a dynamic, mission-driven workplace.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for events and engagements.
