Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) empowers Ohioans with disabilities through employment, disability determinations, and independence. OOD works with partners in businesses, education, and non‑profit organizations to facilitate customized employment plans. It helps Ohio companies recruit and retain employees with disabilities and is the sole agency determining medical and vocational SSDI and SSI programs. Provides sign language interpreting and accessibility services for employees, partners, and participants. Partners with internal customers to ensure communication, outreach, and advocacy efforts are accessible and inclusive. Conducts administrative duties to support the functioning of interpreting services.
ASL Interpreter Duties- Provides ASL and other English signing interpreting services for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, translating between spoken and signed language.
- Formulates and implements program policy related to effective communication for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Provides interpreting services one‑on‑one and for OOD staff at professional meetings, trainings, professional development, disciplinary actions, workforce planning, etc.; identifies resources needed and prepares for interpreting assignments.
- Adheres to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)/National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Code of Professional Conduct.
- Provides mentoring services and assists with special assignments and projects.
- Willingness to be part of a team with other interpreters, content developers, and service recipients.
- Desire to learn and develop understanding of a wide variety of programs and the unique vocabulary of each program.
- Ability to be flexible in communication modality and support consumer needs, scaffolding language and learning style approaches.
- Loves working with a variety of people and in a variety of settings.
- Recognizes that serving as a staff interpreter in a government agency requires understanding how interpreting services fit into a larger system.
- Ability to travel throughout the community where communication services are required.

The BSVI provides vocational rehabilitation services to Ohioans with disabilities seeking employment or personal independence. Working with county and state agencies, public facilities, and universities, the BSVI strives to enable premier career opportunities for individuals with disabilities and be the service provider of choice for clients.
Pay InformationStarting salary is Step 1 with a bilingual supplement of $1.35 per hour, subject to law or union contract. New hires advance to the next step after six months and annually thereafter. Additional longevity supplements begin after five years.
Pay ranges:
- Step 1: $26.92 hourly ($55,994 annual)
- Step 2: $28.40 hourly ($59,072 annual)
- Step 3: $29.93 hourly ($62,254 annual)
- Step 4: $31.66 hourly ($65,853 annual)
- Step 5: $33.35 hourly ($69,368 annual)
