About the Research Platforms and Insights (RPI)

RPI is a unit within the Office of Research responsible for identifying and implementing solutions that will improve process effectiveness and prepare the Office of Research and UC research enterprise for future growth.

Job Overview

The RPI unit is hiring a Manager for Strategic Data Analytics. This position will oversee the insights team and processes within RPI. The manager will collaborate with leadership to facilitate effective, data‑informed decision‑making by employing diverse statistical analysis methods, including explanatory and predictive monitoring techniques.

Essential Functions
  • Create and maintain dashboards in Tableau and Power BI.
  • Lead cross‑functional projects using advanced data modeling and analysis to discover insights that will guide strategic decisions and uncover optimization opportunities.
  • Communicate and present results and business impacts of insight initiatives to stakeholders within college/unit and the University.
  • Develop and maintain data models, automation systems, dashboards, reports and metrics that support key business decisions.
  • Design and implement technical processes to address business issues (data collection, validation, modeling, etc.).
  • Oversee the design and delivery of reports and insights that analyze business functions and key operations and performance metrics.
  • Oversee the data/report requests process: tracking requests submitted, prioritization, approval, etc.
  • Develop and implement quality controls and departmental standards to ensure quality standards, organizational expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Anticipate future demands of initiatives related to people, technology, budget and business within the department and design/implement solutions to meet these needs.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non‑exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Analytics, or related field.
  • Nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of the education requirement.
Required Experience

Five (5) years of experience in data analytics (can include co‑op, internship, etc.), including two (2) years of personnel management experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Working knowledge of data mining principles: predictive analytics, mapping, collecting data from multiple data systems on premises and cloud‑based data sources.
  • Ability to perform effective querying involving multiple tables and subqueries (SQL, Python, R, etc.).
