Overview

The Human Resources Director is responsible for planning, developing, organizing, implementing, directing, and evaluating the human resource function of the long-term care facility. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws while supporting a positive workplace culture that promotes quality resident care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruitment & Staffing
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract qualified clinical and non-clinical staff
  • Oversee hiring processes for nurses, CNAs, therapists, dietary, housekeeping, and administrative staff
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation programs
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Employee Relations
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to management and staff
  • Investigate employee complaints and workplace concerns
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and corrective action processes
  • Promote employee engagement and retention initiatives
  • Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, OSHA, and state labor regulations
  • Maintain personnel files and documentation in accordance with healthcare regulations
  • Support facility compliance with CMS and state survey requirements
  • Develop and update HR policies and procedures
  • Compensation & Benefits Administration
  • Administer employee compensation programs
  • Manage employee benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, PTO, and leave programs
  • Conduct wage and salary surveys to ensure competitive pay practices
  • Training & Development
  • Coordinate mandatory in-service training and continuing education
  • Ensure compliance with state-mandated training requirements for long-term care staff
  • Support leadership development and succession planning
  • Payroll & HRIS Oversight
  • Oversee payroll processing and timekeeping systems
  • Maintain HRIS systems and employee records
  • Generate HR reports for leadership and regulatory agencies
  • Risk Management & Workplace Safety
  • Support workplace safety initiatives in collaboration with nursing leadership
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims
  • Assist in developing infection control and emergency preparedness policies
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Experience: 3–5+ years of progressive HR experience; experience in healthcare, preferably in long-term care, skilled nursing, or assisted living settings; experience with union environments (if applicable) preferred
  • Certifications (Preferred): SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP; PHR or SPHR
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong knowledge of employment law and healthcare regulations; excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills; ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information; strong organizational and problem-solving skills; proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems
