Position: Cart Technician - Main Sterile Processing Dept - Full Time - Days

Overview

The main objective of the case cart transport tech is to timely and efficiently retrieve and transport case carts from the using department back to the sterile processing department. This includes the OR, 8w, Pelvic floor, and other departments throughout the campus. The case cart tech will assist with delivery of carts and instrument trays to customers in addition to daily tasks within the sterile processing department.

Responsibilities

Transports Surgical Case Carts to and from assigned areas.

  • Transportation of Surgical Case Cartsare carried out in a timely manner according to department guidelines and national benchmarks.
  • To assist with the day-to-day department needs
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklist for department including but not limited to:
    • Clean/organize/stock workstations (prep and decon)
    • Inspect/clean equipment in department (steam traps/washer screens/etc)
    • Inspect/clean washer arms/nozzles
    • Test/inspect eyewash stations in addition to other equipment

Observes departmental and hospital safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to:

  • Maintains safety standards and uses proper body mechanics while Transportation of Surgical Case Carts
  • Always utilize universal precautions when transporting case carts, instrumentation, and in areas where required.
  • All patient information is always held in confidence.
  • Uses and maintains equipment according to vendor protocol and departmental standards.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental needs.
Unit Responsibility/Accountability
  • Serves as a positive role model - maintains a positive attitude.
  • Responds to scheduling responsibilities with timeliness.
  • Utilizes the time and attendance system appropriately.
  • Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of Pl Plan initiatives in collaboration with leadership to improve outcomes.
  • Understands and advocates for the principles of High Reliability in operational efficiencies.
  • Maintains exemplary customer service standard for patient experience
  • Maintains HIPAA compliance with all patient information
  • In-services and unit meetings are attended.
  • Maintains the integrity of unit equipment. Cleans all equipment after each use.
  • Completes all unit assignments as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required or directed.
Attendance

Follows the time and attendance policy; reports to work on time and log into SPM ready to work, maintains a good attendance record, has badge to clock in and out, makes requests for time off as far in advance as possible, etc.

Attends required in-services, including but not limited to:

  • Completes yearly education/competency review per department guidelines.
