UC Health is hiring a full‑time Histotechnician for the dermatology pathology department for first shift at UC Health.
Job DescriptionThe Histotechnician performs routine histopathological tests in a clinical laboratory for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease.

Responsibilities- Engages in population appropriate communication.
- Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
- Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
- Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
- Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
- Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
- Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
- Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
- Perform routine paraffin sections of surgical and autopsy tissue for microscopic examination in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Prepare equipment and reagents for processing, embedding, microtome cutting and mounting of tissue; perform routine and special staining techniques.
- Label, file, discard and maintain records of tissue samples of containers, tissue processing cassettes, final paraffin bloods and slides.
- Label and record slides of specimens received; provide specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by the pathologist.
- Obtain and log specimens from the operating rooms and other areas as required.
- Perform frozen cytostat sectioning.
- Perform various Quality Control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Utilize various hospital information systems and software, including Electronic Medical Records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
