Job Responsibilities
- Departmental Support – Conduct, direct or assist in special projects, evaluations, experiments or research. Participate in a regularly scheduled cross‑trained rotation and demonstrate continued competency in various sections of the Clinical Laboratory. Contribute to improving organizational performance by recommending areas for improvement, performing new procedures, collecting data, and providing input to department discussions. Establish job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency.
- Technical Skills and Knowledge – Possess the appropriate skills to independently perform a variety of laboratory tests. Operate instruments; perform checks, calibrations, preventative maintenance, and basic troubleshooting following written guidelines. Perform and report Quality Control procedures, identify Q.C. failures, prepare samples for analysis, store and preserve specimens, prepare reagents, and monitor supply inventories. Perform registration and sample collection as required by location, and carry out routine procedures within the respective discipline, including the collection and analysis of data that influences patient care decisions.
- Customer Service – Maintain and manage strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders. Respond to requests quickly and effectively, identify, understand, and meet customer needs, and communicate relevant information to all parties.
- Professional Development – Keep current in the field, maintain required licensure or certification through continuing education, conferences, meetings, in‑services, networking, literature, and seminars. Attend all mandatory CCHMC training sessions and apply new knowledge to one’s work, the department, and the organization. Take responsibility for personal professional growth and development, and may participate in internal or external professional committees, agencies, councils, or activities.
- Quality and Accountability – Perform accurate, precise work with a consistently low error rate. Stay aware of sectional needs and contribute skills to meet those needs. Assume responsibility for one's actions, complete tasks, and comply with applicable policies, guidelines, regulations, and accreditation standards. Document compliance as necessary and maintain adherence to CCHMC Core Standards and code of ethics. Ensure work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, and efficient environment for employees, patients, and families.
Under the general direction of the Section Supervisor and leadership staff, perform a variety of laboratory tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease in a medical center caring for infants, children and adolescents.
Job Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science OR Associate’s degree in a related science.
- 0+ years of experience.
- Any license, certification, or registration required.
- Preferred:
Certified MLS or MLT through a national certifying agency.
