Overview
PRN Clinical Dietitian covers vacation day shifts across the system, requires working remotely every 8th weekend. This is a GREAT foot in the door: most of our PT and FT staff come from our PRN Dietitians. We are looking for open availability and flexibility. Responsibilities- Plan, directly participate in, and document all aspects of the nutritional care of patients in assigned areas.
- Perform nutritional assessments and document nutrition diagnoses based on guidelines outlined by the nutrition care process.
- Discuss nutrition diagnoses and provide nutrition counseling that outlines nutrition goals with patient, families, and other team members when possible.
- Collaborate with internal and external resources to implement nutritional care plans.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the patient’s nutrition care plan and revise the plan as needed.
- Relate basic principles of nutrition to staff, health care team members, and the community.
- Review current research to enhance professional practice.
- Serve on at least one hospital committee and provide feedback that positively impacts decisions affecting the department, hospital, and community.
- Demonstrate awareness of professional time management and use time efficiently; be open to change and able to adjust tasks with minimal loss of efficacy.
- As of 1/1/24, new practitioners are required to have a Master’s Degree in Dietetics. If eligible or registered prior to 1/1/24, a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics is required.
- Dietetic limited permit is accepted upon hire.
- Required to pass the RD exam within 6 months of hire date. Applicants not on a limited permit are required to have both Ohio Licensure AND Registration.
- General clinical knowledge of adult learning principles.
- Up to 1 year of experience in a related field.

Education:
Utilizes all components of the Nutrition Care Process in care planning. Writes appropriate PES statements and documents discharge plans consistently. Evaluates and monitors the effects of nutrition plans and practices and makes changes as needed. Keeps abreast of new nutrition research through continuing education opportunities, attends at least one educational session per year in the focus area of practice, and keeps CDR education record updated. - Patient
Education:
Assesses patient learning needs including cultural and religious beliefs, emotional and age-specific barriers, desire and motivation to learn, and diet history. Individualizes patient intervention goals; documentation is complete per department standards. - Projects: Complete a small project or idea such as updating a non-patient education clinical resource, publishing a nutrition article, delivering an education session on a unit, or organizing a journal club for Clinical Dietitians within the system.
- Time Management / Flexibility: Demonstrates professional time management. On average, meets patient ratio goals. Demonstrates flexibility and ability to adjust the schedule to meet daily needs.
- New Hire / Training & Development: Creates a welcoming atmosphere, reviews trainee documentation, observes trainees during patient interactions, and provides constructive feedback when training new hires and/or dietetic interns.
