Job Responsibilities
- Milieu Management and Care Delivery - Functions as behavioral/milieu leader across waking hours to ensure implementation of therapeutic milieu and group programming; develops and facilitates coaching of staff implementing groups; oversees shift-to-shift application of individualized programming; coaches/oversees crisis events for staff and patients; leads in managing patient care across settings; adapts milieu to manage disruptive behaviors; designs and evaluates creative therapeutic programming based on evidence-based practice interventions;
educates/precepts new staff; ensures work areas are safe and ready for the next activity or shift; practices according to CCHMC and divisional policies with emphasis on high-risk patients; makes rounds to monitor patient locations and risk levels, alerts nurse to mental status changes; leads in making shift assignments; assigns daily tasks including environmental rounds and patient observation checks; ensures timely staff documentation;
participates in treatment rounds and facilitates staff participation consistent with patient assignment; ensures materials/resources are available/prepared for groups with appropriate allocated time; facilitates ordering/management of resources and supports unit functions. - Patient/Family Interaction - Encourages patients to plan for family meeting attendance and participation; promptly addresses customer service concerns and questions and attempts to meet customer needs before referring to others in the treatment team; seeks out parent interactions during visiting and provides coaching to staff on engaging with patients and implementing positive reinforcement systems as well as de-escalation and crisis management skills;
supports families during leisure activities and discussions regarding family expectations; provides parent coaching education regarding behavioral interventions and safety plans; demonstrates leadership to staff in supporting families and co-workers; consistently integrates age-specific and culturally inclusive concepts into patient care, considering both the patient s chronological age and developmental functioning; communicates regularly with the interdisciplinary treatment team regarding the plan for treatment including communication with family, expectations for treatment, and treatment progress;
oversees implementation of positive reinforcement system/token economy system by unit staff. - Group Therapy II - Develops group topics; educates new staff on group leadership skills; tailors groups to patient needs using knowledge of development levels and psychiatric diagnosis; adapts groups to address behavioral issues; recognizes when group process is non-productive and adjusts to improve productivity; participates in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes; provides oversight and support with assignments of more complex patients;
offers constructive feedback to coworkers and coaches new staff on therapeutic use of 1-on-1 interventions; provides feedback to encourage ICMP completion; leads with more leadership responsibilities and clinical expertise; collaborates to achieve clinical outcomes; attends rounds, provides milieu leadership; prioritizes independence and detail orientation; may respond to referrals, complete patient assessments, round on patients, respond to crises, and support bedside staff. - Crisis Management - Works with Code Violet Response Team to respond to and manage crises on the unit; supports and coaches in episodes of seclusion/restraint when necessary; supervises and coaches staff in active implementation of treatment plans/behavior plans and interventions; facilitates implementation of behavioral interventions in collaboration with the Behavior Specialist; ensures staff complete appropriate documentation related to implementation of individualized behavioral programming/plans.
- Family Education - Communicates clearly parental attitudes and behaviors that may affect treatment, both verbally and in writing; facilitates problem solving of behavioral-medical treatment options; participates in team staffing of children and clinical case reviews;…
