Job OverviewA full‑time Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Amit Bhattacharya, PhD, in the Department of Environmental & Public Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine. The incumbent will conduct research experiments to develop protective firefighter coats and related heat stress assessments for firefighters and construction workers, following all University policies and procedures.
Essential Functions- Conduct research experiments focused on developing highly protective and safe firefighter coats, including the use of force platforms and wearable sensors to assess postural stability and gait mechanics among firefighters.
- Participate in live burn testing, extrication data collection, and interaction with co‑investigators; employ Bio Harness sensors to measure core body temperature and heart rate.
- Administer consent forms and utilize custom software to quantify postural stability and gait function.
- Gather, analyze, and summarize data; prepare reports, manuscripts, and presentations that quantify hyperthermal testing results.
- Assist in writing, editing, and reviewing manuscripts for scientific journals and presentations; may assist in grant writing.
- Maintain cell culture facilities, including culture, feed, subculture, and assess cell, virus, equipment, and supply viability.
- Teach laboratory techniques to junior research staff through demonstration and feedback.
- Participate in professional training and development opportunities, including lectures, seminars, and literature review.
- Under supervision, conduct critical reviews of scientific literature and discuss data with external researchers.
- Keep informed of developments in biomechanics, cardiovascular, and neuromuscular research to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
Ph.D. in Public Health or a related field, completed prior to the effective date of appointment.
