Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine’s faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day.

A full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Amit Bhattacharya, PhD in the Department of Environmental & Public Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine.

The incumbent will conduct research and/or analyze research data and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of the University of Cincinnati.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct research experiments with the overall purpose of developing highly protective and safe firefighter coats.
    • This research will involve the following: use force platform and wearable sensors to assess postural stability and gait mechanics among firefighters; participate in data collection during Live Burn testing and extrication and through interacting with co-investigators; use Bioharness sensors for measuring core body temperature and heart rate; administer consent forms; and use custom software to quantify postural stability and gait function.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research with heat stress assessments for firefighters and construction workers.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results for quantification of hyperthermal testing.
  • Assist in writing, editing and reviewing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
  • Engage in cell culture facility maintenance, including culture, feed, subculture, and measure of the growth and viability for cells, viruses, equipment, and supplies.
  • Teach laboratory techniques through demonstration and feedback to other junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities. This includes attending professional lectures and seminars and reading published literature.
  • Under supervision, conduct critical review of scientific literature and discuss scientific data with external researchers.
  • Keep informed of developments in fields of biomechanics, cardiovascular and neuromuscular research to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
Required Education

Prior to effective date of appointment, Ph.D. in Public Health or related field.
