Sterile Processing Technician Associate – Main Sterile Processing Dept – Full Time – Nights

- Perform instrument decontamination functions, including disassembling, cleaning, disinfecting, and operating equipment such as sonic washers, cart washers, washer‑sterilizers and decontaminators.
- Transport case carts from soiled holding areas to the decontamination room, unload soiled instruments, and place them in the designated area or cart washer.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area, using universal precautions (gloves, face shields, protective gown).
- Use the SPM computer system to track instruments and case carts, build sterilization loads, and record biological and chemical indicator results.
- Assemble instrument trays and packs (basins, peel packs, small instrument sets) according to manufacturer instructions, checking for sharpness and proper functioning.
- Build surgical case carts based on surgical preference lists, label locations for efficiency, and verify that all instrumentation is properly sterilized before adding to the cart.
- Perform equipment decontamination functions, including inspecting for wear or damage and coordinating reporting to Clinical Engineering and CS Supervisor.
- Meet emergency code response requirements and fulfill requests from OR core areas when needed.
- Attend departmental‑in‑services and mandatory meetings, and act as a liaison between Central Service and all customers, communicating courteously.
- Distinguish between low and high priority activities to use time effectively.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED required. - Experience:
0–1 year as a Certified Technician. - License/Certification:
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred; must be obtained within the first year of hire.
