Job Summary

The ED Tech Advanced provides direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Essential Functions
  • Provides basic patient care and tasks to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assistance with mobility, performs lab draws, ECG’s, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN.
  • Performs the ED Tech Advanced role, which includes additional patient care and tasks such as colostomy care, IV insertion and removal, IV site care, transport on monitor, initiation of CPR, foley catheter placement, identification of patients in decline or crisis, and alerts RN for further assessment. Other unit-based specialty duties are performed in accordance with state and department guidelines under RN direction.
  • Completes patient rounding as assigned.
  • Provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
  • Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns.
  • Provides high level customer service to all patients, families, community providers, visitors, and employees.
  • Provides accurate, precise, and timely documentation as applicable to patient care.
  • Participates in handoff reports of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.
  • Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
  • Collects data within scope.
  • Completes patient screenings as applicable.
  • Promotes quality and safety by seeking to continually improve processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, solve problems, and resolve conflicts while working under considerable stress.
  • Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned that are deemed necessary for department operations.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Successful completion of an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) through an approved educational program (preferred)
Required Licensing & Certifications
  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred on hire, must obtain prior to direct patient care)
  • Current AEMT certification (required if employed in South Carolina)
Experience
  • 1 year of experience as an LPN, ED Tech, or Advanced EMT (required)
