Job Overview

The Analyst II, Capital Planning supports the Director, Capital Planning by executing the Capital Approval Process. The Analyst II coordinates with Macy’s business teams on new capital project requests, prepares materials for approval meetings, and tracks projects through the capital process. The Analyst II also prepares and analyzes monthly capital forecast reports to ensure accurate tracking and management of Macy’s, Inc.

What You Will Do
  • Support the Capital Planning team in evaluating capital projects using discounted cash flow (DCF) models.
  • Support the Director with capital reporting, project tracking, and documentation throughout the Capital Approval Process.
  • Prepare, streamline, automate, and analyze monthly capital forecast reports to support enterprise-wide capital investment tracking.
  • Coordinate, consolidate, and automate forecast submissions from cross-functional business teams.
  • Support the Director in developing annual summaries of capital project performance for Board-level reporting.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Store Environment, Real Estate, Area Research, Stores, Merchandising, Tax, and Capital Control.
  • Perform financial analyses and support additional projects as assigned.
  • Provide recommendations to guide future capital investment decisions.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.

Skills You Will Need

Capital Planning & Governance: Working knowledge of capital approval processes, including project tracking, documentation, and stage-gate readiness.

Financial Modeling (DCF): Ability to build and interpret discounted cash flow models (NPV/IRR), develop assumptions, and perform sensitivity/scenario analysis.

Forecasting & Variance Analysis: Experience consolidating forecasts, validating inputs, and explaining variances to support enterprise-wide capital investment tracking.

Advanced Excel & Automation: Advanced proficiency in Excel and the ability to streamline and automate recurring reporting (e.g., Power Query/Power Pivot, complex formulas, pivot tables; VBA a plus).

Executive Communication (PowerPoint): Ability to distill complex analyses into clear, concise updates and Board-ready materials; strong PowerPoint proficiency required.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven ability to partner with Store Environment, Real Estate, Area Research, Stores, Merchandising, Tax, and Capital Control to coordinate and validate submissions.

Analytical & Quantitative

Skills:

Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, above-average math aptitude (rates, ratios, percentages), and familiarity with basic statistical concepts.

Organization & Judgment: Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently while exercising sound judgment and attention to detail.
