Position Overview:
A growing, privately held commercial and residential construction company is seeking a strategic and hands‑on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead all financial operations and partner closely with ownership and executive leadership. This role will be instrumental in strengthening financial infrastructure, supporting growth, and providing clear, data‑driven insights to guide business decisions.
The ideal candidate brings deep construction finance experience, understands the nuances of project‑based accounting, and is comfortable operating in a fast‑moving, entrepreneurial environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on financial planning, forecasting, and long‑term growth initiatives
- Develop and oversee annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and cash flow projections
- Provide clear financial reporting and KPIs to support operational and strategic decision‑making
- Oversee all accounting functions including WIP reporting, job cost tracking, revenue recognition, and margin analysis
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial close processes
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Manage cash flow, lines of credit, bonding relationships, and banking partnerships
- Support bonding capacity growth through clean reporting and financial discipline
- Oversee insurance, risk management, and compliance requirements
- Partner with operations and project teams to improve job cost visibility, forecasting accuracy, and profitability
- Evaluate financial performance across projects, divisions, and markets
- Support leadership with financial modeling related to growth, staffing, and market expansion
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting/finance team
- Oversee financial systems, accounting software, and reporting tools; identify opportunities for process improvement and automation
- Coordinate with external partners including CPAs, auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably within commercial construction, general contracting, or a project‑based environment
- Strong understanding of construction accounting, WIP schedules, job costing, and percentage‑of‑completion reporting
- Proven experience managing cash flow, banking relationships, and bonding programs
- Background working with closely held or owner‑led businesses
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA or MBA a plus)
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to communicate clearly across executive, operational, and field teams
