Overview
The Interim Payroll Tax Consultant provides contract payroll tax advisory services, ensuring accurate and timely payroll tax compliance during periods of transition or increased demand. This role oversees payroll tax operations, ensures compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local tax regulations, and implements best practices to optimize payroll tax processes. The Interim Payroll Tax Consultant collaborates with finance, payroll, and HR teams, prepares payroll tax reports, supports audits, and maintains confidentiality of payroll tax data.
This position is responsible for delivering high-quality service and supporting the transition to permanent payroll tax leadership. This role will work a sporadic and fluctuating schedule.
- Manages end-to-end payroll tax compliance and reporting
- Advises on payroll tax regulations and updates
- Reviews and approves payroll tax filings and payments
- Coordinates with HR, Payroll, and Finance teams to resolve payroll tax discrepancies
- Prepares and submits payroll tax reports for management review
- Responds to internal and external payroll tax audits
- Implements process improvements to enhance payroll tax efficiency
- Maintains confidentiality and security of payroll tax data
- Supports transition and training for incoming payroll tax leadership

- High School Diploma/GED, required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, preferred
- Three (3) or more years of payroll tax experience, required
- Two (2) or more years of experience in a consulting or advisory role, preferred
- Experience with multi-state payroll tax compliance, preferred
- Experience providing payroll tax services in a contract or consulting environment, preferred
- CPA, preferred
- Proficiency in payroll tax software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, UKG), preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, required
