This Supplier Quality Engineer builds strong supplier relationships-without compromising quality. This role plays a key function in strengthening supply chain performance, ensuring supplier accountability, and supporting compliance with customer, regulatory, and specialprocess requirements. From audits to corrective actions, this Supplier Quality Engineer keeps quality consistent across the supply chain.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent experience in supplier quality or aerospace/defense manufacturing will be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Prior experience in defense, aerospace, or precision machining environments preferred.
- Familiarity with machining, welding, coatings, NDT, and assembly processes is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of GD&T, metrology, AS9102 FAIR requirements, SPC, PFMEA, and control plans.
- Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO
9001, and NADCAP special processes. - Demonstrated ability to conduct supplier audits and interpret technical drawings.
Digital Proficiency
- Experience with ERP systems, dashboards, and digital quality tools.
- Ability to analyze data and generate clear, actionable insights.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and relation shipbuilding skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
- Organized, analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel to supplier facilities (up to 25%).
- Capability to work in manufacturing environments where industrial processes are present.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during audits.

Key Responsibilities
Supplier Performance & Accountability
- Monitor and evaluate supplier performance using scorecards and established metrics.
- Drive consistent improvement in delivery, quality, documentation accuracy, and responsiveness.
- Lead structured corrective action processes and work with suppliers to resolve recurring issues.
- Partner with Procurement to escalate supplier concerns and support strategic sourcing decisions.
Supplier Development & Technical Support
- Communicate technical and quality requirements to suppliers, including machining tolerances, welding standards, coating specifications, and NDT expectations.
- Support suppliers in understanding customer and regulatory requirements, including AS9100, NADCAP, and internal standards.
- Provide guidance on inspection criteria, sampling plans, and quality control methodologies.
- Assist suppliers in enhancing process capability and reducing variation.
Supplier Audits & Qualification
- Conduct supplier audits for qualification, ongoing compliance, and riskbased surveillance.
- Assess supplier quality systems, specialprocess controls, inspection methods, and organizational readiness.
- Verify compliance with customer flowdowns, specialprocess certifications, and required documentation.
- Evaluate potential new suppliers for capability, capacity, and alignment with defense industry expectations.
Production Support & Issue Resolution
- Respond promptly to supplierrelated disruptions impacting production.
- Lead containment, root cause analysis, and corrective action coordination.
- Support incoming inspection activities with technical interpretation and defect classification.
- Communicate supply related risks to internal stakeholders and contribute to mitigation planning.
Data, Reporting & Digital Tools
- Maintain supplier performance dashboards and related quality documentation.
- Utilize ERP and digital tools to track performance data, trends, and supplier metrics.
- Prepare regular reports for management outlining supplier performance, risks, and improvement plans.
