Role Summary

The Transportation Hydraulics Senior Engineer/Project Manager is responsible for providing leadership support in project delivery, business development, and growth of HDR’s Transportation Hydraulics Group in the state of Ohio. This role will serve as Project Manager / Hydraulics Lead on key projects, promote HDR through active engagement in professional organizations, and coordinate with area client managers and marketing staff to identify projects and contract opportunities with existing and new clients.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Transportation Hydraulics Lead in the development of strategic planning.
  • Oversee technical project delivery, including quality control, staff development, and morale.
  • Direct and coordinate work of single or multidisciplinary teams (roadway, structural, traffic, utilities, ROW, environmental) and subconsultants, keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Perform or ensure quality control for each project, supervising highway/roadway design teams and performing complex design work on larger projects.
  • Manage or lead the development of hydraulic models (1D/2D) to support planning and design of flood and transportation hydraulic projects, including stream rehabilitation, complex culverts and bridges, floodplain impacts, and stormwater collection systems.
  • Develop engineering design documents including plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents for a diverse variety of water resources infrastructure.
  • Lead development of technical and non‑technical reports and presentations, including visualization of data.
  • Assist with business development activities such as client relations, marketing pursuits, and project proposals.
  • Develop and implement HDR’s technology, standards, project delivery practices, equipment, tools, and associated training programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (required).
  • Ohio PE required.
  • 8 years of experience in hydraulics engineering, water resource engineering, and permitting for transportation projects.
  • 4 years of Project Management experience.
  • Experience in water resources planning, hydrology/hydraulics, and drainage/flood control design.
  • Successful project leadership experience.
  • Strong leadership, planning, and mentoring experience.
  • Technical proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and reports, scour investigations, erosion and sediment control plans, drainage and stormwater management design, waterway and NPDES permitting, quantity & cost estimates, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with standard drainage analysis and design packages:
    AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station Open Roads Designer, Storm

    CAD.
  • HEC‑RAS 1D/2D and/or SRH‑2D river modeling experience (preferred).
  • ArcGIS Pro and HEC‑HMS experience (preferred).
  • Project experience and existing relationships with ODOT and Ohio transportation clients.
  • Local candidates are preferred.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 7 years of related experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of project management experience.
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (PE or P.Eng).
  • MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience is a plus).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
