Job Description Summary

This role is within the Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) Commercial Mechanical Analysis team, where you will be analyzing CMC components within the combustion and high-pressure-turbine (HPT) modules of the LEAP and GE9X commercial turbofan engines. The team also supports commercial New Technology Introduction (NTI) programs with CMC components.

The Lead Engineer will support and lead mechanical analysis projects for CMC hot section hardware and/or interfacing metallic components. Tasks include performing stress analyses and life analyses using finite-element-analysis (FEA) software and proprietary post-processing tools. Projects may include evaluating component durability, analyzing impacts of non-conforming hardware, and providing assessments on fleet findings. The individual will be accountable for the quality of their own work, relying on guidance from supervisors and technical mentors, and is expected to guide others.

The role requires consistent collaboration and communication with hardware owners, the thermal systems design team, and the material behaviors team. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness, etc.).

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person (U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or approved immigrant).

Essential Responsibilities
  • Execute the analysis and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to standard practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. Lead others (individuals and small teams) in doing the same.
  • Develop conceptual knowledge of turbofan hot section design and composite analysis. May include support roles with specialized expertise or technical knowledge in adjacent areas such as component testing, material behavior, and thermal systems.
  • Apply general knowledge of mechanical engineering and mechanical analysis concepts through education or past experiences; understand how work contributes to the hardware owner and engine program objectives.
  • Resolve issues using established procedures and consult mentors or more senior team members for issues outside defined work scope or expertise.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and present outcomes to technical and business leaders.
  • Exchange technical information, ask questions, and verify understanding.
  • Document assessment assumptions, boundary conditions, and results, and share conclusions with adjacent teams.
  • Aid in the coaching and development of more junior team members.
  • Create macros or tools to standardize Stress Analysis practices for CMCs.
Required Characteristics
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university/college
  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience
Desired Characteristics
  • Attention to detail and ability to document and execute programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; experience influencing and leading small teams.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously with demonstrated project management experience.
  • Effective problem-solving, analytical skills, and ability to make appropriate risk-based decisions.
  • Willingness to learn and highly motivated to work with new technologies.
  • Experience in using Finite-Element-Analysis software (e.g., Ansys) and related pre-processing tools (e.g., Hypermesh, UG NX).
  • Knowledge of jet engine fundamentals, CMC functionality, or composite analysis.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
