Steel & O’Brien Manufacturing, a leading manufacturer of stainless steel flow control components, is rapidly expanding its Data Center Cooling (DCC) division, providing liquid cooling equipment and infrastructure for hyperscale and colocation facilities. The Industrial Engineer will play a pivotal role in standing up and then optimizing our new Cincinnati manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for designing, analyzing, and improving production systems to maximize efficiency, throughput, and resource utilization.
This role focuses heavily on facility layout optimization, time studies, workflow design, and capacity modeling. You will use CAD tools, simulation software, and analytical methods to create efficient production setups that support operational excellence and continuous improvement.

PrimaryJob Duties:
Facility Layout
- Develop, update, and optimize plant layouts using CAD tools to improve material flow, operator efficiency, and equipment utilization.
- Create detailed 2D/3D CAD layouts for new production lines, equipment installations, and facility modifications.
- Evaluate space requirements, material movement, and storage strategies to support smooth operations.
- Utilize simulation/analysis software to validate complex production scenarios.
- Develop visual models and engineering documentation to guide installation and implementation.
- Map current and future-state process flows to eliminate waste and reduce cycle time.
- Identify bottlenecks and constraints in manufacturing workflows and develop solutions to improve throughput.
- Optimize workstation design and material presentation for ergonomic and efficient operator performance
- Calculate line capacity, takt time, and equipment utilization to ensure production goals are achievable.
- Model throughput performance under different production scenarios and recommend system improvements.
- Support strategic planning by providing data-driven assessments of future capacity needs.
- Conduct time and motion studies to establish accurate labor and machine standards.
- Balance production lines to distribute workload evenly and improve operational efficiency.
- Maintain and update standard work based on validated time study data.
- Participate in continuous improvement events such as 5S, Kaizen, and VSM.
- Assist cross-functional teams with product launches, equipment integration, and process changes.
- Provide analytical support for cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and operational planning.

Competencies:
- Proficient and experienced in AutoCAD, Solid Works, or similar CAD software for 2D and 3D drawings including layouts, workflows and material flows
- Experience with simulation software such as Technmatix, Flex Sim, Simul8, or Arena.
- Expert in time study and labor analysis
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to translate complex data into actionable recommendations.

- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
- 2-5 years of experience in facility layout design, time studies, or workflow optimization in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a fast-paced growth industry.
- Extensive recent experience using CAD software such as AutoCAD or Solid Works required.
- Experience with simulation software such as Technmatix, Flex Sim, Simul8, or Arena is highly preferred.
- Experience with capacity planning and bringing on new production lines preferred.
- Able to perform the physical demands of the job including:
- Ability to safely navigate a manufacturing environment
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, to stand for long periods, and to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, and twist
- Extended periods of sitting and using office, phone and computer equipment
- Ability to occasionally travel by air and car
