This role is focused on providing manufacturing support and guidance to the Future of Flight Mechanical Design team to ensure the manufacturability of new designs for GE Aerospace’s next generation of products. In this role you will be embedded with the design engineering team to ensure the design intent and tolerances offer a balance of performance and producibility. You will apply engineering concepts to design and drafting to eliminate future manufacturing issues.
Seeking a manufacturing engineer with the ability to lead and influence through a changing product mix to meet functional, business, and broad company objectives.
- Provide technical direction to a large design team for the RISE program, a revolutionary new engine concept with significant business impact, using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements.
- Provide manufacturing consultation on manufacturing practices and standards, including initial development needs and cost predictions to aid in key strategic decisions.
- Participate in cross-functional team meetings including design engineering, quality, materials and manufacturing with a goal of defining requirements and standards for new designs.
- Assist design engineers and manufacturing engineers in aligning drawing requirements with manufacturing best practices and standard work.
- Work collaboratively with Design and Systems Engineering teams, GRC, production and global sites to formulate technical solutions that align with long term business objectives.
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical, program and design reviews, while communicating with the customer or program manager to assure a quality product will be able to be delivered.
- Remain current in the state of the art within own technical specialty for new products introduction activity, performance improvements, cost reductions and problem resolutions.
- Serve as a recognized expert in defining the state of the art in own technical specialty to anticipate, develop and apply technology to current and future business opportunities.
- Partner with Design Boards, Manufacturing pyramids and TRL owners to industrialize design and technologies.
- Develop standard work for the implementation of new technologies and processes related to manufacturing of components.
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and a FLIGHT DECK mentality within the manufacturing organization.
- 90 Days:
Lead producibility reviews on priority components; deliver recommendations tied to process capability and inspection strategy - 6 Months:
Influence drawing/model changes that reduce predicted scrap/rework, and support MRL/industrialization plans for new processes and hardware.
- Lead producibility reviews and provide redlines on drawings/models to align tolerances with process capability and inspection strategies.
- Define datum schemes and fixturing concepts; identify key characteristics and special processes; quantify SQDC impact of alternatives.
- Run trade studies to inform make/buy, process selection, and cost/risk decisions early in design.
- Translate capability data into actionable drawing changes and inspection plans; support FAI/PPAP or equivalent.
- Develop and deploy standard work for new processes; contribute to technology maturation and industrialization plans with TRL/MRL owners.
- Collaborate with internal factories and suppliers to close the loop between design intent and actual process capability.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Manufacturing or Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited College/University with a minimum of 3 years of relevant Manufacturing and / or Engineering experience OR a high school diploma / GED with at least 8 years of relevant Manufacturing and / or Engineering experience
