Structural Engineer

Grand Rivers, KY (Kentucky Lock Dam)

Based on experience and will be discussed with manager in interview.

• Provides professional structural engineering and construction management support, serving as a general engineer providing professional and technical leadership, guidance, and expertise in managing contractor‑executed construction projects
• Serves as the organizational subject matter expert regarding national standards and practices for structural engineering designs, foundation analysis for dams and lock structures as well as bridges and roads
• Reviews as‑built drawings and replies to RFI requests
• Performs quality assurance inspections, structural fabrication inspections, documentation review and preparation, and general construction management and oversight from a structural engineering perspective
• Reviews construction lift plans involving cranes and rigging
• Has experience reviewing contractor claims
• Provides safety oversight, documentation of such oversight, and directs corrective actions as required to ensure worker and public safety
• Assists in interpreting and enforcing contractual provisions regarding contractor structural engineering requirements and deliverables; documents and provides reports regarding contractor progress
• Recommends authorization of progress payments based on observed contract progress

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
• 10 years of experience as structural engineer on large complex multimillion‑dollar federal construction projects
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred
• Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Tennessee Valley Authority, or other federal project experience preferred
• Experience with lock, dam and/or levee construction preferred
• Demonstrated experience in heavy civil construction with an emphasis on structural concrete, rebar, and formwork
• Experience with design and monitoring shop fabrication of welded steel structures
• Experience with review of construction lift plans involving cranes and rigging

• Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
• Ability to carry required instruments and equipment
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
• The worker is subject to variable climate and environmental conditions including but not limited to extreme cold and heat
