Senior Engineer / Engineer (Structural/Bridge) (Non-Competitive)

Perform professional engineering work involving the design, investigation, and construction of engineering projects such as streets, bridges, mechanical systems, utility plants, and buildings. Provide complex professional assistance to Engineering Supervisor and other management personnel.

• Assigned to the City’s bridge program.
• Part of a small team of Engineers and Technicians that inspect, maintain, load rate, design, and manage bridges within the City of Cincinnati.
• Provide engineering services to other sections within the City.
• Interact regularly with other departments of Transportation and Engineering.
• Take ownership of projects throughout the life cycle.

• Prepare engineering drawings, project plans, construction plans, and specifications.
• Provide project management, consultant, or contract management oversight for individual projects or programs.
• Exercise professional engineering judgment in accordance with accepted practices.
• Review plans and calculations done by other engineers.
• Conduct field inspections and troubleshoot infrastructure problems.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and activities of subordinate workers.
• Coordinate with vendors, local jurisdictions, and private engineers.
• Participate in consultant selection and construction change orders.
• Engage with the public and assist with property rights and environmental approvals.
• Develop and maintain database applications and engineering software.
• Review claims, resolve disputes, and monitor customer service requests.

• Registered professional engineer in the State of Ohio (or eligible registration). Must obtain Ohio registration during probation if not already registered.
• Driver’s license required.
• For Engineer (non-senior):
  Enrolled as a senior in a Bachelor’s Degree program in engineering or possess a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering. Alternatively, an Engineer-in-Training Certificate.
• Salary ranges:
  Senior Engineer $90,024.86 – $;
  Engineer $70,370.40 – $94,571.93.

• Background investigation required.
• U.S. citizenship or valid permanent resident card.
• Military education and experience may substitute for coursework per ACE guidelines.

• Engineering knowledge in structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, geotechnical, reinforced concrete design.
• Design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans, blueprints, drawings.
• Knowledge of local geology, stabilization methods, and relevant codes and standards.
• Administrative and managerial principles, city policies, union contracts.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management software, ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Work in indoor and outdoor environments, exposure to weather extremes, working near heavy equipment, exposure to dust, asbestos, exhaust fumes. Requires sustained sitting, standing, walking, light to moderate lifting, vehicle operation.
