Senior Electrical Engineer – HEAPY
HEAPY is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Indianapolis, IN office. The position focuses on electrical design engineering for projects in the built environment, leveraging standard design techniques, advanced software, and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
SummaryThis colleague independently performs a variety of assignments involving the application of standard electrical design engineering techniques for a small project or selected segments of a larger project. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to make minor design adaptations and modifications. This role requires setting assignments with clear objectives and investigating a limited number of variables.
Qualifications- 4-year engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program.
- 10+ years of related experience in electrical engineering systems in the built environment, or equivalent combination of experience, advanced degree, or professional knowledge.
- Proficiency with various computer software packages and automated electrical engineering design equipment.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification; actively working toward Professional Engineering (PE) registration, to be attained within the first two years.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; collaborative team player.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and capable of preparing plan details, cost estimates, and calculations to support broader engineering activities.
- Maintain clear knowledge of HEAPY Corporate Vision, Mission, and Core Values and demonstrate awareness of how those objectives relate to all position responsibilities.
- Approach all assigned tasks as opportunities for growth, modeling the way for other team members.
- Advance technical education and personal development aligned with key objectives.
- Provide design engineering services that adhere to Corporate Vision, Mission, ISO standards, professional standards, client requirements, and corporate objectives.
- Collaborate with experienced engineering colleagues to prepare basic plan details, cost estimates, and calculations supporting broader electrical design activities.
- Produce full plan designs, detail plans, material quantities, cost estimates, and detailed calculations for project segments.
- Write technical specifications for review and approval.
- Evaluate vendors’ bids and drawings to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Review and approve electrical design drawings for assigned project segments.
- Assist with development of design guides, guide specifications, and design control procedures as directed.
- Prepare technical reports such as life‑cycle cost analysis, facility condition assessments, and other engineering guidance for clients.
- Perform field tests and measurements, collect field data, and prepare field reports when necessary.
- Support proposal teams or proposal managers as requested.
- Support and mentor Design Engineers / Designers I & II on their technical development and professional growth.
- Collaborate with colleagues to conduct field observations, tests, measurements, and compile related documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to remain sedentary at a desk for long periods while using a computer and operating a mouse or stylus.
- Ability to view details on a screen and distinguish colors, shades, and brightness.
- Ability to communicate in person, electronically, and by phone with others.
- Reliable transportation to and from project sites.
- Ability to work in all indoor and outdoor environments, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
- Ability to access all areas of a job site, including ascending/descending stairs, using scaffolding and ladders, and navigating elevation changes.
- Capability to assume positions such as kneeling, sitting, standing, squatting, or bending.
- Ability to move or transport items weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to apply established protocols and practices in a timely manner and follow safety guidelines for both the company and clients.
- Ability to gather, organize, and evaluate project-related information (e.g., cost analysis, facility assessments, design calculations).
