High Mach Gas Turbine Systems Engineering Leader – Edison Works Emerging Technologies

Systems engineering is a cross‑functional discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process, aiming to provide quality products that meet customer needs. The role involves design, creation, optimization of systems, from concept to production to operation, affecting quality and efficiency of the team and projects.

We are seeking a leader to direct a cross‑functional team of engineers for the high‑mach gas turbine (HMGT) program, currently in the pre‑conceptual design stage for a government customer.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership for systems engineering and design integration activities, including requirements definition, compliance, configuration control, development, maturation, and demonstration.
  • Conduct component and product integration across multiple components to maximize performance and operability; manage product and systems requirements, specifications and flow‑down.
  • Drive validation and verification activities for overall product/system, including system‑level testing; define product requirements for modules, component subcontractors, and partner teams.
  • Manage interfaces between components and execution organizations; drive CTQ/Risk trades within teams designing components.
  • Lead proposal efforts in response to RFI, RFP, and RFQ for internal and external customers.
  • Provide forward‑looking strategy for HMGT product vision and technology development to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Develop and manage program schedules and budget baselines to meet business objectives.
  • Serve as a best‑practice/quality resource; maintain awareness of latest technical developments; contribute to strategy and policy development.
  • Use judgment to solve moderately complex operational and engineering problems; analyze data to support recommendations.
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues; lead small projects with moderate risks; influence through persuasion and consensus building.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in design, systems integration, or qualification engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant turbo machinery and/or systems integration experience.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain U.S. Government Security Clearance.
  • Ability to travel out of state at least 15% annually.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship).
Desired Characteristics
  • Master’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Active U.S. government Secret Security Clearance, preferred with AP approval.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence across the matrix.
  • Experience with DOD qualification, airworthiness, or FAA certification processes.
  • Experience with GE NPI Tollgate and Military Qualification processes.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Proposal development and negotiation skills.
  • Direct interaction with customers (airframers and U.S. government).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

This role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information. Employment will be contingent upon proving that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as a lawful permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or asylee/refugee under the Immigration and Nationalization Act.
