Job Overview

The Department of Medical Education at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is seeking applicants for a full-time (12-month), non-tenure track, basic sciences medical educator faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. This faculty member will serve two programs within the College of Medicine: the Medical Sciences Baccalaureate Program (BS) and the Medical School (MD).

As a member of the Medical Sciences Baccalaureate Program Community of Scholars, the candidate will:

- teach and mentor students inside and outside the classroom to prepare them for career paths in the biomedical sciences and healthcare, including medical school;

- teach courses from the 1st to 4th year of the curriculum, developing professional competencies and STEM subject matter expertise; and - potentially teach upper-level courses in biochemistry and other subjects (e.g., medical microbiology, medical genetics, or cell biology) based on expertise. All faculty members also serve as mentors and participate in curriculum committees; there are opportunities to develop and publish innovative pedagogical materials and scholarship.

In the Medical School (MD program), the candidate will:

- serve as the course director for Scientific Foundations of Medicine (SFOM), the first basic science course of Phase 1, organizing content, overseeing activities, and creating assessments; and - work with a clinical co-director, present lectures in SFOM and other Phase 1 courses, and collaborate with other course directors on curriculum development and integration of basic science and clinical content.

Essential Functions
  • Direct and teach upper-level courses in Medical Sciences Baccalaureate Program subjects (e.g., biochemistry, medical genetics, cell biology).
  • Serve as course director for SFOM in the Medical School; organize content, oversee activities, and create assessments in collaboration with the clinical co-director.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop course materials and innovative teaching methods.
  • Serve on curriculum and educational program committees as needed.
Minimum Requirements
  • Ph.D. in a biomedical sciences field (e.g., biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, immunology, etc.).
  • Experience in teaching at the baccalaureate or medical school level.
Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Experience in course oversight or administration at the baccalaureate or undergraduate medical education levels.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching at the baccalaureate or medical school level.
  • History of participation and dissemination in medical education scholarship.

  • Office environment with no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
