Definition:

The intervention specialist develops, provides, and monitors specially designed instruction for students with disabilities according to individualized education plans and federal/state guidelines. This includes the coordination and management of student service delivery, assessments, behavior plans, parent communications, and data collection methods.

Key Functions:
  • Conducts educational assessments for the development of evaluation team reports and student eligibility.
  • Plans and coordinates instructional delivery, including necessary modifications and accommodations, for students with disabilities, and according to the Ohio Learning Standards (OLS)/Ohio's Learning Standards-Extended (OLS-E).
  • Develops and monitors individualized education plans for students with disabilities.
  • Collects/tracks necessary specially designed instruction service time according to District SDI documentation logs.
  • Records and manages progress monitoring data, and completes student progress reports on scheduled reporting periods.
  • Initiates Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and the development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and behavior tracking, as appropriate
  • Initiates Assistive Technology Assessments, as appropriate, with the student's IEP Teams.
  • Develops and supports student post-secondary transition plans (ages 14-22).
  • Collaborates with building teams, parents and agencies regarding student program support.
  • Coordinate scheduling and provide support for classroom paraprofessionals.
  • Acquire the necessary understanding of the Operating Standards for Ohio's Schools Servicing Children with Disabilities, regarding placement, instruction, and evaluation of students with disabilities.

    Skills and Abilities:

    Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication. Ability to use computers for classroom instruction and record keeping.

    Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
