Overview

Position:
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Respiratory Care Instructor to teach at our Main Campus location.

The RC instructor will be responsible for planning, designing, and teaching assigned RC lectures/labs and clinical courses at a variety of levels within the associate degree program. Additional duties include holding office hours to help support student success, addressing issues and concerns, reviewing course material, remediation, and possibly advising. Other responsibilities include service to the program, division, college, and the community.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, and a summary of their teaching philosophy. All candidates will be required to give a teaching demonstration during the interview.

RC Faculty Essential Duties
  • Assess student performance in achieving course objectives and provide formative and summative feedback related to the student’s progress in a timely manner.
  • Promote student success in their courses and program through academic advising and referral to college resources (tutoring, etc.).
  • Participate in course duties such as planning, revising, grading, and lab setup, etc.
  • Hold office hours as detailed in the AAUP contract.
  • Promptly address student issues, including communicating through the appropriate chain of command as identified in the faculty handbook.
  • Participate in professional development activities, as well as service to the program, the division, the college, and the community. Examples include: program) serving on the program advisory board, helping with recruitment activities; division) attend divisional meetings and activities; college) attend college professional development activities, serve on committees; community) maintain collaborative working relationships with community partners by attending events, meetings, etc.
  • Participate in peer mentoring program and demonstrate continuous progress toward completing all required activities and documentation required for tenure.
  • Make continual efforts to improve the quality of instruction by participating in critically reflective practice, professional development activities, continuing education, utilizing feedback from the peer mentor, colleagues, and supervisors, and employing innovative teaching techniques and delivery methods.
  • Demonstrate the ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.
  • Ensure a safe and effective learning environment for all students.
  • Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse professional, community, and student populations.
  • Assist the Program Director with the accreditation process and continually maintain the accrediting standards.
  • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.
  • Assists with ensuring that equipment and lab/classroom are kept clean and in working order.
  • Maintain current RCP licensure and AARC membership.
  • Adapt to revisions/updates/changes to college policies and AAUP contract.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • RRT credential
  • 5 years of critical care RC experience in an acute care setting
  • Current RCP license
  • Competence in the use of classroom technology and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies.
  • At least 1 year of classroom teaching experience, or 2 years as a clinical instructor, or 4 years as a clinical preceptor or clinical educator.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Greater than 2 years of RC education classroom experience
  • Experience using human patient simulation
  • Experience with a LMS from the instructor side (Blackboard, Canvas, Brightspace, etc)
  • College and/or program accreditation experience
