St. Xavier High School, founded in 1831 and the oldest high school in Cincinnati, Ohio, is an all-male Catholic college preparatory school sponsored by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). With an enrollment of about 1400 young men from 3 states and more than 100 grade schools, St. Xavier takes pride in having educated more than 21,000 living alumni in the Jesuit tradition.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to Catholic education and willingness to work with a talented and motivated student population and faculty colleagues. Qualifications
  • Minimum of MA/MS degree in School Counseling
  • Ohio School Counseling Licensure required
  • Minimum three years’ successful high school counseling experience
Primary Responsibilities
  • Counsels a caseload of freshman through seniors, monitoring academic progress and intervening when students are at risk
  • Communicate and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and families
  • Expertise in academic and personal counseling, small group facilitation, course scheduling, and graduation requirements
  • Respond to crises using school protocols and appropriate referrals
  • Collaborate closely with all student support teams
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and ethical practice
  • Other duties as assigned
Competencies
  • Strong individual and group counseling skills; active listening, empathy, and the ability to build trusting relationships with students and families
  • Effective collaboration with students, parents, faculty, and staff to support student growth and decision making; clear written and verbal communication
  • Work closely with administration, teachers, the School Psychologist, and school-based therapists
  • Awareness of diverse backgrounds and ability to provide inclusive, culturally responsive support
  • Adherence to ethical standards, confidentiality, and professional boundaries
