Overview

The Humanities and Sciences Division at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track teaching position in Chemistry. The successful candidate will teach college-level Chemistry courses to students in our applied, technical, and transfer degree programs. Review of applications will begin on 3/2/2026.

As part of our faculty team, Chemistry Instructors are expected to provide high-quality instruction, work with our colleagues, laboratory staff, and administrators to improve the student-learning experience, be involved in curriculum development and implementation, and be committed to the mission and values of the College.

General Responsibilities
  • Teach lecture and laboratory components of a range of Chemistry courses, including General Chemistry (one-year sequence), Everyday Chemistry;
    Basic Chemistry;
    General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry (both one- and two-semester courses), and Organic Chemistry (one-year sequence).
  • Develop curriculum, review, and maintain Chemistry Department course materials.
  • Support collaboration with other College Departments and Programs.
  • Support the mission of the College, Division, and Department.
  • Develop and update laboratory procedures and classroom demonstrations to be used by full- and part-time faculty in Chemistry.
  • Provide input in acquisitions of equipment and instrumentation for the Department.
  • Assist in ensuring a safe laboratory environment.
  • Engage in committee work and College-wide service.
  • Engage in professional development to stay current with effective teaching practices and procedures.
  • Teach day and/or evening classes at any Cincinnati State campus.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities of tenure-track faculty members.
  • Support College initiatives as a representative of the Chemistry Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Specific Duties
  • Deliver effective instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning, student involvement, and student success.
  • Provide timely feedback to students.
  • Provide students with syllabi that outline student-learning outcomes, course expectations, assessments, and schedules.
  • Prepare course materials and lessons.
  • Develop practical learning activities that align with the learning outcomes defined in the Chemistry Department’s General Syllabi.
  • Use varied methods of instruction, including but not limited to lecture, group work, and demonstrations.
  • Serve as course-keeper for Chemistry courses and maintain and provide master syllabi to all instructors of those courses.
  • Submit student grades, administrative reports, and conduct other required record-keeping in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Maintain current knowledge and best practices within chemistry and chemical education.
  • Maintain office hours in accordance with the College policy.
  • Attend College, Departmental, and Divisional meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry or a Master’s degree in a related field, including a cohesive set of at least 18 semester hours of graduate course work in Chemistry from a regionally accredited institution.
  • One year of experience as the primary instructor of college-level courses at a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience with or ability to learn and use the College’s Learning Management System (Brightspace).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years’ experience as primary instructor of college-level Chemistry courses at a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching in a two-year technical or community college.
  • Experience in submitting Chemistry courses for statewide transfer approval, such as The Ohio Department of Higher Education’s Transfer Assurance Guarantee or Ohio Transfer 36.
  • Two years of teaching experience in Organic Chemistry I and II, lectures and labs.
