Job Overview

The Department of Physics supports thriving undergraduate and graduate programs. Areas of active research include astrophysics, condensed matter physics, high energy physics, and physics education research. We are committed to fostering a supportive and welcoming environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

The Department of Physics invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in experimental condensed matter physics, in the area of quantum phenomena, broadly defined. Themes of interest include but are not limited to material synthesis and characterization, devices, circuits, or photonics. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a robust, externally funded research program that incorporates undergraduate and graduate student researchers, be an effective instructor in undergraduate and graduate courses, and help grow the culture of academic excellence in the department.

The preferred starting date for this position is August 2026.

Essential Functions
  • Teaching Physics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including but not limited to College Physics, Intermediate Mechanics, or Quantum Mechanics.
  • Establishing an experimental research program in quantum phenomena that involves undergraduate and graduate students, actively seeking external funding to support research, publishing papers co-authored with students in peer-reviewed journals, and disseminating research results at professional conferences such as the annual meeting of the American Physical society.
  • Participating in professional service, which may include serving on steering graduate and undergraduate committees and PHD committees, and service to the broader research community, for example as a referee for peer-reviewed journals.
Minimum Requirements

Prior to effective date of appointment, a Ph.D. in Physics, or a closely related field.
