Overview
The employee serves as a Training Specialist for the Department of Veterans Affairs - Environmental Management Service at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, providing training related to the hospital's major environmental management programs of national scope, interest, and significance.

Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) for Training Specialist Series (1712): An IOR is a basic requirement that must be met to qualify for entry into this job series and cannot be waived.
Education:
Undergraduate and graduate education in education or a related subject area, or Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5) demonstrating practical knowledge of the subject area and instructional methods. Examples include teaching or instructing, supervising or administering a training program, development/review of training materials, and training others regularly.
Grade level requirements (GS-7, GS-9):
- GS-7 Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5, including knowledge of training regulations and methods, ability to analyze training data, and applying adult learning principles in training. - GS-9 Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7, including knowledge of policy/regulations, data system development for training needs, program evaluation, and evidence-based training practices. Ability to develop training materials, establish relationships, and communicate effectively. Alternatively, education above the bachelor’s level or a master’s degree can substitute for the experience as described.

- The Cincinnati VA Medical Center is a two-division campus located in Cincinnati, Ohio and Fort Thomas, Kentucky, serving 15 counties in Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana with six Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
- Major Duties GS-7:
Gather information, analyze data, develop findings, and make recommendations modeled on precedents. - Coordinate EMS training activities related to assignments and projects to develop and implement training courses or course materials.
- Maintain liaison with training program instructors and training specialists to obtain information for projects and activities.
- Coordinate training-related meetings and the gathering of information for analyses and tests.
- Develop comprehensive training courses and modalities on all aspects of healthcare environmental services.
- Maintain an updated library of training materials, curricula, and the Environmental Care procedure manual.
- Conduct literature-based research on emerging pathogens, technology, infection control policies, and best practices to stay abreast of developments; adapt this information to the curriculum; update coursework accordingly.
- Train employees within EMS, provide instruction, and modify course content with emphasis on biosafety and infection control.
