Position: Special Education Instructor Assistant (4657-66)

  • Hours:

    8:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday – Friday
  • 5 personal days provided per year, prorated with employee start date. 12 sick days immediately allocated upon hire. Sick time accrued at 12 days per year after first year of employment with an unlimited accrual.
  • Starting salary range, determined by formula accounting for years of experience: base rate of $19.30 hourly ($26,200.00 yearly) - $24.13 hourly ($32,760.00 yearly) for 10 years of experience performing a job with primarily the same duties.
  • Stretch pay system utilized – pay checks evenly distributed over the year, including during winter, spring, and summer school breaks.

Instructor Assistant

A typical school day in the life of an Instructor Assistant begins at 8:30 am. You may begin setting up the classroom or participate in a staff meeting until students, aged between 5-21, begin arriving at 9:00 am. Collaborating closely with our dedicated teaching staff, you will assist in implementing personalized education plans, providing one-on-one support, and facilitating group activities that promote growth and skill development.

Classrooms consist of 5-6 students at a time with 3-4 staff members. Throughout the day, you celebrate small victories from a student's breakthrough in communication to their achievements in daily living skills. Your unwavering patience, compassion, and dedication ensure that every student feels valued, supported, and empowered on their unique educational journey.

Job Duties (Summary):
  • Supporting Classroom

    Activities:

    Collaborate with teachers to assist in implementing lesson plans and educational activities tailored to individual student needs.
  • One-on-One Assistance:
    Provide individualized support to students, focusing on skill development, communication, and personal growth.
  • Behavioral Support:
    Offer positive behavioral support and intervention techniques to address challenging behaviors and promote a positive classroom atmosphere.
  • Personal Care:
    Assist with daily living skills, including personal hygiene, mobility, and other activities of daily living.
  • Safety and Supervision:
    Ensure the safety and well-being of students during all school activities and transitions.
  • Documentation:
    Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior, assisting in the development and tracking of individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Collaboration:

    Work as part of a dedicated team, including teachers, therapists, and support staff, to provide comprehensive care and education to students.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Once hired, must obtain an Educational Aide permit through the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce Development.
  • Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to pass criminal background checks and driver's abstract.
