Cincinnati State Technical and Community College
OverviewTo provide academic assistance to Student Support Services participants in both individual and small group tutoring sessions in the science subject areas of Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2, Chemistry, and Physics.
Funding for this position is contingent on annual grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education and is subject to annual renewal.
Responsibilities and Duties- Assist students with various scientific, laboratory, and mathematical concepts to help them further understand concepts of their science subject areas.
- Possess a passion for helping students learn and have knowledge and science skills.
- Have good interpersonal skills to interact with students of all ages and levels of learning.
- Must have a positive attitude and have patience to work with a diverse student population.
- Maintain weekly tutoring logs with students’ tutoring time and any notes that will be submitted to a TRIO SSS Program Representative.
- Enter tutoring data into SSS program software (BLUMEN).
- Confer with SSS Academic Coaches, as needed, concerning student progress/challenges.
- Follow-up and meet with professors and other program and College personnel, if required.
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience as a tutor of science in secondary and/or post‑secondary education.
- Experience constructing, conducting and assessing science exercises and activities.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
- Community College teaching or tutoring experience.
- Experience working in a Tutoring Center with Science as a key focus.
