Job OverviewTerm adjunct instructor, Department of Geography & GIS
The Department of Geography & GIS in the College of Arts & Sciences is seeking qualified individuals as term adjunct instructor. On a part-time limited basis, the Adjunct Faculty member’s primary academic functions include teaching, discovering, creating, and reporting knowledge to students.
Appointments are renewed based upon departmental need, enrollments, and teaching performance. Classes may be day, evening, or online. Rank and compensation are based on experience and academic credentials.
Essential FunctionsOn a part-time term-by-term basis, provide high-quality education by conducting and teaching assigned undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and seminars in geography, geographic information sciences, and/or related courses that are offered through the department.
Evaluate student course work; work may also include serving as an academic adviser for students.
Review, and where necessary, respond in a timely manner to all University-related communications.
Attend at least one in-person scheduled meeting on campus each semester; complete at least one in-person training session / professional development offered through the university.
Academic degree in an appropriate discipline and prior teaching experience.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex material to students unfamiliar with a subject.
Ability to work and collaborate with individuals from a variety of professional and educational backgrounds.
Must be able to effectively teach courses in all modalities (in-person, hybrid, and online).
Required Education- Academic degree in an appropriate discipline and prior teaching experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex material to students unfamiliar with a subject.
- Ability to work and collaborate with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
Professional experience working with GIS, remote sensing, and/or cartography.
Working knowledge of a programming language related to GIS.
