Overview
Jr. Counselors (JCs) generally have some or no experience working with school-age students and work collaboratively with and under the guidance of Senior Counselors (SCs). JCs may be asked to perform more individual, specific tasks as the SCs oversee the entire group. JCs are a key part of the team who demonstrate what is expected of all counselors and understand the importance of role modeling.
Datesand Hours
Training:
June 1 - 5
Camp:
June 8 - August 7, generally 8:00am-4:15pm on Monday and 8:45am-4:15pm Tuesday-Friday
Job Duties
Under the supervision of Unit Heads, general daily responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Care and general welfare of everyone in their bunk (camper group); safety is top priority
- Assisting campers/bunks in transitions between locations and during check in/check out
- Facilitate daily activities; modifying an activity to provide accommodations to ensure all campers are included
- Collaborate with Sr. Counselor when dealing with any camper issue or misbehavior and ensure it is communicated to the supervisory staff
- Supporting and facilitating high-quality daily activities for our campers
- Other duties, as assigned
- 16 years of age or older
- Prior experience working with children, families, or other related roles (desired)
- Actively utilizes empathy, patience, and intentional positivity in the workplace
- Able to take direction from senior staff and work collaboratively with the entire team
- Able to pivot from planned activities on short notice
- Ability to sit, stand, kneel, and stretch for long periods of time
- Ability to work outside in high degree temperatures
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
