Position Summary

The Adult Day Program Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day execution of recreational activities for older adults. The Program Assistant provides engaging and enjoyable activities for our participants, and assists in the set up, operation and clean-up of various events onsite and offsite.

Essential Functions
  • Builds a sense of community and a warm social atmosphere in which participants are able to identify a support system
  • Assists with a variety of activities: one-to-one and group, outside and/or in the Activity Center
  • Ensures activities are engaging and enjoyable
  • Co‑ordinates special events and outings
  • Assists with administrative functions, including reporting, documentation and communication (phone/email) with participants and families
  • Communicates effectively, follows instructions, interacts with participants of varying backgrounds and abilities, and remains cheerful and calm in stressful situations
  • Communicates with participants, families and staff regarding activities
  • Maintains privacy and confidentiality of participants in accordance with HIPAA regulations and standards, and identifies areas of improvement
  • Documents resident attendance, preferences and participation levels in various activities
  • Maintains accurate records of resident involvement in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements
  • Prepares activity rooms or spaces by arranging furniture, gathering necessary supplies and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment
  • Cleans up after activities, ensuring the area is restored to its original condition
  • Co‑ordinates with volunteers, family members and other staff to ensure successful events
  • Meets regularly with supervisor
  • Works approximately 28 hours per week;
    Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00‑4:00
  • Performs other relevant duties as necessary
Position Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two years administrative and recreational activities experience
  • Previous work with older adults and/or family caregivers preferred
  • Ability to work constructively as supervisor and member of a multi‑disciplinary team
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products and strong administrative skills
  • Physical ability to sit and stand occasionally for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
