Mandarin Translator

Responsibilities

• Translate documents from the source language into Mandarin, ensuring accuracy, especially for legal, technical, medical, or business texts.
• Maintain the original meaning, tone, and nuance of the source text while translating it into Mandarin.
• Review translations for errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Edit translations for fluency and cultural appropriateness.
• Provide oral interpretation during meetings or conferences between Mandarin and non‑Mandarin speakers.
• Adapt translations to fit cultural contexts and conventions within Mandarin‑speaking regions.
• Work closely with clients to ensure the translated content meets their expectations and requirements.
• Continuously update knowledge about Mandarin language and culture, as well as industry trends in translation.
• Maintain confidentiality of translated material and adhere to professional ethics in translation.

• Proficiency in Mandarin: Fluent in both spoken and written Mandarin; understanding of the difference between Standard Mandarin (Putonghua) and regional dialects such as Cantonese and Hokkien.
• Proficiency in Source and Target
  
  Languages:
  
  Strong command of both the source language (e.g., English, Indonesian, etc.) and the target language (Mandarin); ability to translate accurately between both languages.
• Reading
  
  Skills:
  
  Mastery of Chinese characters (Simplified and Traditional) and capable of reading Mandarin texts accurately.
• Cultural Knowledge: Understanding of Mandarin culture and how it affects language use; familiarity with idiomatic expressions and cultural contexts that impact translation.
• Educational Background: A degree in Mandarin language or a related field, or certification in Mandarin proficiency (e.g., HSK). Minimum HSK5 or higher.
• Work Experience: Experience in translating documents, articles, or other content, preferably in specialized fields such as law, medicine, or business.
• Strong Communication
  
  Skills:
  
  Effective communication skills to clarify context and translation requirements with clients and colleagues.
• Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with digital dictionaries and other translation aids.
