Position Overview

The Preschool Teacher Assistant will work with the lead teacher in planning daily activities for students, supervise them, assist during meals/snacks, and provide general one‑on‑one attention as needed. The assistant helps organize the classroom, clean up, and set up for the next day’s activities, and interacts with children, passes out snacks/meals, assists in teaching about numbers, colors, shapes, and social skills.

They also provide feedback to lead teachers regarding students’ academic and social development.

Essential Functions
  • Assist lead teachers in planning, developing, and implementing age‑appropriate curriculum.
  • Provide support to lead teachers in daily lesson planning.
  • Assist students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments (read stories, provide writing assistance, reinforce language skills, numbers, alphabet, computer learning programs, etc.) to practice and reinforce learning concepts and help students reach academic goals and grade‑level standards.
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials (art projects, computer, language skills, etc.) to support and reinforce classroom goals and objectives.
  • Monitor individual or group students in various settings (classroom, playground, etc.) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Assist students during lunchtime, toileting, and washing activities.
  • Enforce cleanup activities after lunchtime by modeling appropriate behavior.
  • Maintain classroom equipment, work area, and manual and electronic records (clean/bleach tables, sign‑in/sign‑out logs, etc.) to ensure availability, provide a safe learning environment, and meet mandated requirements.
  • Perform general clerical tasks (laminating, making posters, making copies, bulletin boards, filing, newsletters, etc.) to help the teacher prepare instructional materials.
  • Provide an environment of comfort and security for young students through nurturing behavior.
  • Report observations and incidents relating to specific students (accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, rule violations, safety conditions, changes in behavior, etc.) to appropriate instructional or administrative personnel.
Education, Licensure, or Certification
  • High School Diploma (U.S. equivalency required) or GED.
  • Must have the ability to interact positively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Proof of experience working with young students.

  • Positively interact with all students.
  • Create a safe learning environment conducive to learning.

  • Possess strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Arizona Employees:
    Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Nevada Employees: NV Fingerprint Background Check.

Physical And Travel Requirements / Work Environment
  • Requires occasional lifting of objects up to 25 pounds.
  • May require sitting for long periods, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping, and extended concentration.
  • Local and in‑state travel required.
