About the Role

A well‑established precision engineering company in Christchurch is seeking an experienced CNC Sliding Head Programmer/Setter/Operator to join their team on a permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled machinist with strong experience on Citizen sliding head lathes to take ownership of complex, high‑precision work in a clean, modern workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Programming, setting, and operating Citizen Sliding Head machines (e.g., L20, L32, M32 or similar models).

* Creating, editing, and optimising CNC programs to achieve efficient cycle times and exceptional part quality.

* Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, ensuring all components meet tight tolerances.

* Conducting first‑off inspections and in‑process checks using standard metrology equipment.

* Performing machine adjustments, tool changes, offsets, and troubleshooting as required.

* Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping and adhering to company quality procedures (ISO
9001/AS9100 where applicable).

* Collaborating with production and engineering teams to support continuous improvement.

Skills & Experience Required

* Proven experience programming and setting Citizen sliding head lathes (essential).

* Strong understanding of CNC turning principles, tooling, materials, and machining strategies.

* Ability to work from complex technical drawings with minimal supervision.

* Confident using micrometers, verniers, gauges, and other inspection tools.

* A proactive, quality‑driven approach with excellent problem‑solving skills.

* Experience with multi‑axis machining, live tooling, and bar feeders is highly advantageous.
