The Middle / High School Science Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, rigorous instruction in the sciences while fostering intellectual curiosity and a deeper understanding of the natural world as part of God’s creation. This teacher integrates scientific inquiry with the Catholic intellectual tradition, encouraging students to pursue truth through reason, observation, and thoughtful reflection. The teacher supports the academic, spiritual, and moral development of students while creating a structured classroom environment that promotes responsibility, critical thinking, and respect for others.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Science Education or a related science field required.
- Valid Wisconsin DPI teaching license (or ability to obtain licensure).
- Strong content knowledge in one or more scientific disciplines.
- Experience teaching middle or high school students preferred.
- Ability to manage laboratory materials and maintain safe classroom practices.
- Practicing Catholic preferred, with a commitment to supporting the mission of Catholic education.
- Support and uphold the mission of McDonell Area Catholic Schools and the values of Catholic education.
- Model Christian virtue and promote respect for the dignity of every student.
- Participate in school prayer, liturgies, and other faith-based activities.
- Encourage students to recognize the harmony between faith and reason through the study of science.
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with school curriculum, diocesan standards, and state academic standards.
- Teach middle and/or high school science courses such as physical science, biology, chemistry, earth science, or other assigned courses.
- Incorporate laboratory experiments, demonstrations, and hands-on learning experiences that promote scientific inquiry.
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student understanding and adjust instruction as needed.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and effective laboratory environment.
- Establish and maintain clear classroom expectations and routines that support a positive learning environment.
- Foster curiosity, analytical thinking, and responsible study habits.
- Support the intellectual, social, and emotional development of students.
- Monitor student progress and communicate concerns or successes to students and families.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to promote student success.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.
- Contribute to the broader life of the school community through extracurricular involvement when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, and lesson plans.
- Follow school policies, diocesan guidelines, and professional standards.
- Engage in ongoing professional growth to strengthen instructional practices and subject knowledge.
