Position Summary

The Catholic Liberal Arts 6th Grade Teacher is responsible for delivering a rigorous, integrated, and mission-centered curriculum rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition. This teacher forms students academically, spiritually, morally, and socially, fostering wonder, virtue, and a love of truth. The role includes instructional planning, classroom management, student assessment, and active collaboration with colleagues and families in support of the mission of McDonell Area Catholic Schools.

The teacher serves as a witness to the Catholic faith and promotes the development of the whole child in alignment with the values of Catholic liberal arts education.

Key Responsibilities Mission & Catholic Identity
  • Integrate Catholic teaching and the Catholic intellectual tradition across subject areas.
  • Model and promote virtuous living, servant leadership, and respect for the dignity of every student.
  • Participate in school Masses, prayer, religious observances, and faith formation activities.
  • Support a classroom culture rooted in truth, beauty, goodness, and reverence.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the Catholic liberal arts framework and diocesan academic standards.
  • Foster critical thinking, rich discussion, and deep reading through classical and great books approaches where appropriate.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student growth and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Establish and maintain clear classroom routines and expectations that support learning and virtue formation.
  • Cultivate habits of responsibility, perseverance, and intellectual curiosity in students.
  • Support students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Communicate concerns regarding student progress or well-being in a timely and professional manner.
  • Partner with parents as primary educators through regular communication and conferences.
  • Collaborate with grade-level colleagues, specialists, and administrators to support student success.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.
  • Contribute to the broader school community through extracurricular involvement as appropriate.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate grade records and student documentation.
  • Uphold school policies, diocesan guidelines, and professional standards.
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth aligned with Catholic liberal arts education.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field required.
  • Valid Wisconsin DPI teaching license (or ability to obtain licensure).
  • Strong knowledge of elementary curriculum and instructional best practices.
  • Familiarity with or openness to Catholic liberal arts philosophy and pedagogy.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred, with commitment to supporting and upholding the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
