Job Description / Essential ElementsPosition Overview
Child Development Teacher, under the direction of the Child Development Administrator, plans, develops, directs and supervises the General Child Care program in accordance with California Department of Education and California Department of Social Services/Community Care Licensing regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities- Execute and direct a developmentally appropriate child‑care program for children ages 3‑12.
- Develop and enforce a plan for safe and effective supervision.
- Provide a safe and healthy environment with standards for positive child behavior and pro‑social development.
- Supervise and direct support staff; assist in obtaining substitute staff; provide training; provide lunch/break coverage as needed.
- Guide daily routine activities such as eating, sleeping, dressing, toileting, and other functions.
- Develop and implement lesson plans based on each child’s needs and developmental abilities; cultivate and demonstrate understanding of developmental growth.
- Complete developmental profiles for all children; conduct parent conferences; maintain communication about progress, behavior, health concerns, or special needs.
- Collaborate with other professional staff to assess and address health and developmental problems.
- Implement a nutrition program in accordance with USDA regulations; develop age‑appropriate menus; maintain accurate records for Child Care Food Program reports; assist with reports, evaluations, and audits.
- Assess and maintain center environments per CDE standards; devise and implement action plans to maintain acceptable rating; recommend necessary equipment or supplies.
- Maintain accurate attendance and enrollment records; assist in developing policies and procedures.
- Conduct a minimum of three parent advisory committee meetings.
- Maintain positive relationships with parents, school administration, teachers, center staff, and district personnel.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Valid California Child Development Site Supervisor Permit.
- Strong college preparation in Early Childhood Development desirable.
- Experience teaching in a child development setting with ages 3‑13, desirable.
- Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and applying Title 5, Title 22, and California Department of Education regulations.
- Ability to work successfully with minority and low‑income families and knowledge of basic needs.
- Strong communication skills with parents and children; ability to maintain collaborative professional relationships.
- Knowledge of English and Spanish, Cantonese or Vietnamese desirable.
Classroom, playground, restroom, instructional settings within the community. Physical abilities include lifting at least 50 pounds, walking and standing for extended periods, running, visual reading and processing of documents, pushing and pulling, reaching overhead and above shoulders, and using hands/fingers for adaptive equipment. Must be willing to diaper and provide toilet assistance. Hazards include contact with blood, body fluids, waste materials, cleaning agents, and chemicals.
