Detailed OverviewThe Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency/Medical/Hospice provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients in Emergency, Medical and Hospice Units of Fraser Canyon Hospital following British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards.
Responsibilities- Provide direct nursing care to emergency, medical and hospice patients, including assessment, diagnosis and intervention.
- Collaborate with patients, families and interprofessional team to develop and implement care plans.
- Participate in admission, discharge planning and coordination of nursing care.
- Delegate tasks to support staff and make referrals to appropriate teams.
- Teach patients and families health maintenance and self‑care skills.
- Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, interventions and outcomes according to standards.
- Participate in committees, quality improvement, educational programs and pre‑ceptorship.
- Provide feedback to management on patient care programs and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BCCNM.
- One year of recent experience providing emergency nursing care in an acute/rural hospital.
- Current CPR certificate.
- Cardiac monitoring, emergency and medical assessment skills.
- Ability to manage emergency situations and make clinical decisions.
- IV therapy initiation and maintenance.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and provide evidence‑based care.
- Effective communication with patients, families and staff.
- Promote person‑centered care, empathy and cultural sensitivity.
- Organize, prioritize and problem‑solve work.
- Teach and instruct patients and families on health topics.
- Operate related equipment (BP machine, oximeter, tracheostomy devices, computers).
- Physical ability to perform job duties.
