Job Summary

The Emergency Department at Chilliwack General Hospital is seeking a Local Department Head.

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose, and Commitments of Fraser Health, the role is service delivery centered around patients, clients, residents, families, etc. The Local Department Head will be an active staff member unless a practitioner is recruited for the role, in which case the applicant would be appointed to the Provisional category of the Medical Staff until promotion to the active category.

The candidate will be assigned to the Regional Department and to the facility as the Member’s Primary Site and a member of the Regional Department.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in the Site Operations Committee or equivalent for the facility.
  • Act as the communication channel between the Regional Department and facility members, ensuring alignment on objectives, policies, and activities.
  • In collaboration with the Regional Department Head, recommend appointment of practitioners, renewal of Medical Staff membership and privileges (December 2020).
  • Coordinate requirements of programs operating within the facility.
  • Promote health and wellness among members.
  • Investigate and document complaints regarding care provided by members within the department at the facility, under the direction of the appropriate Regional Department Head and/or Site Medical Director.
  • Encourage a healthy, respectful workplace.
  • Review with the Regional Department Head the human resource requirements of the Regional Department practicing within the facility.
  • Contribute to the search and selection of applicants for vacancies in the Regional Department.
  • Conduct morbidity and mortality reviews, establish a growth mindset, etc.
  • Encourage others to learn and embrace new ways of doing things, build resiliency, and provide support, coaching, and encouragement to formal leadership or influence of change.

Professional/Technical Capabilities
  • Strong understanding of clinical workflows across the care continuum.
  • Understanding of clinical information systems and ancillary solutions is an asset.
  • Experience with clinical informatics or digital technology in healthcare is an asset.
Compensation
  • Annual stipend of $55,224 based on 0.24 FTE presence in the role or 9 hours per week.
Qualifications

CCFP EM, CPSBC Full, Member of the Department.
