Engineering Inspector
(Full‑Time) Development and Regulatory Enforcement Department
Overview
The City of Chilliwack is a fast‑growing community with a wide range of land development and infrastructure projects underway. The Development and Regulatory Enforcement Services (DARES) Department ensures these projects are designed and constructed to meet approved standards and support sustainable community growth.
Job Duties
Inspections & Compliance- Conduct site, subdivision, and building‑permit inspections to verify compliance with approved specifications.
- Carry out final inspections and monitor warranty work during the one‑year guarantee period.
- Liaise with the public, contractors, engineers, developers, operations staff, and utility companies.
- Approve and track foreign utility permits, and review/coordinate driveway permits and related servicing.
- Review engineering plans and geotechnical/environmental reports.
- Investigate and report on servicing issues involving subdivisions, drainage, roads, and utilities.
- Prepare correspondence and reports; maintain records, drawings, and files; prepare requisitions; certify invoices and progress draws for development securities.
- Review cost estimates and coordinate sales and service work orders and servicing agreements.
- Coordinate the Department’s review of subdivision, building, and Development Permit applications.
- Prepare written reports for management review/signature.
Are you the one we’re looking for?
- You are registered or eligible with either ASTTBC (CTech/AScT) or EGBC as an EIT.
- You have 2+ years’ related experience in land development and servicing (preferred).
- You have strong knowledge of engineering principles; civil inspection practices; and construction methods, materials, and equipment used in land development.
- You have the ability to complete engineering computations; interpret technical data; and analyze geotechnical/environmental reports, drawings, and plans.
- You are familiar with municipal bylaws, zoning regulations, and related policies.
- You communicate clearly (written and verbal) and prepare/present concise technical and non‑technical reports.
- You have the ability to identify and resolve conflicts between geotechnical/environmental assessments, engineering plans, and related data.
